Rabbit Fever

At last, a movie about us rabbit people!
Recently I finally got the opportunity to watch the movie Rabbit Fever. And you know what? I'm glad I did.

Created by Amy Do, Rabbit Fever is a full-length documentary about the rabbit showing hobby. It focuses on the ARBA Youth Royalty contest, following five young rabbit breeders in their quests to become the ARBA King or Queen. We've been hearing about the production of this movie for years, and now it's finally available via DVD and streaming at RabbitFever.com. Amy gave about ten years and most of the resources she had - including funds she had intended to put toward a house - to producing this film, and I'm glad to be able to thank her for that effort.

Like the "stars" in the movie, competing in ARBA Royalty Contests was the focus of my teenage years. In fact, the kids featured in the movie were my role models. They were in the age group just above me, and so were the very people that I held in high respect.

So for a long time I didn't want to...

This was very entertaining
I'm a big fan of documentaries. Particularly ones that are both interesting and entertaining. And "Rabbit Fever" was up there with the best of them. It takes us into a world most of us never knew existed, and it introduces us to people who we might consider to be fanatics under any other circumstance. I'd rate this film right up there with "Word Wars" and "Dumbstruck". If you liked those films, you'll probably like "Rabbit Fever".

Finally a documentary about showing rabbits!
I waited and waited to be able to see this documentary, for about 1 1/2 years actually! It was about time someone created a documentary about showing rabbits. It was informative and showed the rabbit showing from all different perspectives (ie: youth, adults, professionals, as well as the newbies). I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get into showing their rabbits because it is not as easy as it looks and this documentary shows how much work is involved in doing so! A++++

An American Werewolf in London

The greatest Werewolf film ever!
1981 was The Year of the Werewolves...the furry fiends leaped onto movie screens in three major films: "The Howling," "Wolfen," and the classic of the genre, "An American Werewolf in London." There has never been a greater werewolf film, there has never been a better transformation scene, and few horror movies can match the entertaining mixture of humor and scares that writer/direction John Landis ("Animal House," "The Blues Brothers") achieved here.

Although there had been humor in horror films before this movie, "An American Werewolf in London" showed once and for all that having comedy in a horror film didn't mean that the film would lose out in the scare department. Landis makes it clear that the film is NOT a comedy -- the horror scenes are carried with dead-seriousness and shocking impact -- but there is so much quirky humor surrounding these scenes that the film becomes incredibly likable and buoyant. Most of the...

"Beware the Moon" AWIL Blu-review
An American Werewolf in London is probably the best Werewolf flick since Lon Chaney Jr originally transformed under the full moon. Sure, the film is almost 30 years old, but with the new high def transfer it's hard to tell.

As an avid DVD buyer my transition to the Blu-ray media has been a little slow to say the least. I'm generally only buying new titles and am very stubborn when it comes to double dipping on titles I already own. Some companies take the cheap route and just slap an upscaled transfer onto a Blu-ray in order to make some fast cash. This however, is completely worth re buying.

I'll be honest, the first time I saw this film was when it was originally released on DVD back in the late 90's . I instantly fell in love with the movie. Everything about it was perfect, the humor, the scares, the sfx, the amazing soundtrack. It's very rare to find a movie that so perfectly combines horror and comedy, a film with characters you truly care for. This...

ONE OF THE SCARIEST MOVIES EVER MADE!!!
This is one of the few movies that have consistently given me nightmares since I was a child. It is at least a decade ahead of its time. Most of the negative criticisms that I have read use the word "uneven" a lot. Even Roger Ebert, whom I admire, claimed that the humor and the horror were an uneasy mix. This was years before he gave the movie Scream a positive review. Now I LIKE the movie Scream, but there is no way that one can claim that it gets the balance right whereas Werewolf gets it wrong. Scream simply benefits from occurring in the cynical nineties - Werewolf suffers from being avant guard. .

The new DVD has a few good extras on it - especially a new interview with Landis. Even after all these years, the film still holds up. Unlike most films, I see more things in it the more I look. What, for instance, is up with the townsfolk of East Proctor and what is their relationship with the original werewolf? My guess - they brought it on themselves somehow. Maybe one...

Shifty [HD]

A Genuinely Solid View of the Drug Life in Ordinary Places
This little gritty film, written and directed by Eran Creevy, is being cleverly marketed for release in the US by Breaking Glass Pictures as a prescription form for drugs and nothing could be more appropriate for a film that examines the intricate manner drugs such as cocaine, crack, etc have on little sectors of England: here, instead of London, the story is set in a seedy East London/Essex border country where drugs seem to affect everyone in one way or the other.

A bright, well-schooled Muslim lad named Shifty (Riz Ahmed, in a very fine performance) who lives with his straight mature brother Rez (Nitin Ganatra) who only tries to keep his Muslim family together. Shifty is a young crack cocaine dealer with a regular clientele - a addicted building site worker Trevor (Jay Simpson) married to a disillusioned wife (who thought he had given up drugs) with three kids, a crack smoking old lady Valerie (Francesca Annis) in her familiar looking flat, framed photograph of a...

Coexist
I found this movie by accident.I was surfing the web looking for a British Indie, and i came across this film and it was not releasted yet on DVD nor ever showed here in the STATES.Finally it came out on dvd but not in U.S. or Canada format.Out of the blue, i deceided to look for this movie again but this time on AMAZON.com. Bam! it's here. Some other film company pick it up.Now i have it and i love it.That's one of the reason why i shop Amazon.

Gritty crime drama
I knew very little about the British crime film Shifty prior to seeing it. My interest was certainly piqued when a screener arrived in the mail in the form of a Ziplock bag with a pretty neat looking prescription label stuck to the front. It became pretty obvious this was a drug-themed movie, which that in itself usually wouldn't be my type of flick, but I gotta say the effort in the marketing made it much more exciting.

The films starts of with Chris (Daniel Mays) showing up on the doorstep of Shifty (Riz Ahmed), a small town crack dealer. The two reveal to be old friends, but it's clear from the beginning that they have some issues from their past and Chris has been gone for some time. Shifty, who lives with his older brother, invites Chris to stay with them and goes about his usual dealings with Chris tagging along.

We're introduced to a crime underworld that runs deep in the small town. We're introduced to a diverse range of characters including a family man...

Endless Love

Sometimes you gotta dig a little deeper...
to understand a much misunderstood movie! Endless Love is one such movie. So what brought me to this conclusion? Viewing it three times in a row and finally "getting it." You see, when I read reviews depicting this movie as a world-class disaster I was surprised, seeing as how Franco Zeferelli directed it. It couldn't possibly be that bad, I thought to myself...so I rented it. To be honest, the first time I watched it I was a little disappointed. Although the cinematography was excellent, I noticed far too much "choppiness" and little editing errors here and there. I was also a bit uncomfortable with the way the storyline was headed, partly because I had my own preconceived notions and felt "set up" for something different than what I was seeing. As one reviewer put it, "Endless Obsession" would have been a more suitable title, or so I thought at the time. When the movie ended I felt a little uneasy, like I had just missed something big. So what did I do? I rewound the thing and began...

ONE OF THE BEST ROMANTIC MOVIES OF THE 80'S
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST LOVE MOVIES OF THE 80'S, MUCH LIKE A SOAP OPERA AND BROOKE SHIELDS AT HER BEST. MOREOVER IT WAS THE FIRST MOVIE WHERE TOM CRUISE MADE A CAMEO APPEARANCE AND ALSO THE FIRST MOVIE FOR JAMES SPADER. THE SOUNDTRACK WAS SUPERB... A STORY ABOUT TEENAGE LOVE AND HOW PARENTS CAN SPLIT TEENAGE COUPLES AND MAKE THEIR SON'S LIFE MISERABLE. I LOVE THIS MOVIE AND I JUST HOPE IT IS RELEASED ON DVD BEFORE WE ARE TOO OLD TO WATCH AND ENJOY IT....

Anamorphic Widescreen
This imported DVD has a nice picture. It comes in the original aspect ratio of approximately 1:85 anamorphic widescreen. The audio is in Dolby Digital Mono and has Korean, Spanish, English and Italian subtittles. Buy it while you can because this movie is not available in DVD in the United States.

Nina Conti: Her Master's Voice [HD]

"Problems of the Self" Examined by Artificial Others
While my ventriloquism-loving friends either laughed at the crudeness of Jeff Dunham or sang along with Terry Fator, I found myself pursuing the sheer quirkiness that is Nina Conti. Despite having released at least three shows on DVD, being featured in a Christopher Guest film, and being a regular both at comedy shows and in Youtube clips, true fame has eluded Conti, though I'm hopeful that her first solo film project here will give her greater North American recognition. As is her style, Conti uses her documentary to balance spontaneous humor and genuine human emotion for a sometimes-uncomfortable, always-entertaining tribute to her deceased mentor and spiritual center of the piece, theater maverick Ken Campbell.

The gist of the "story" here is that Conti,...

HER MASTER'S VOICE Is A Brilliant Exploration of Life to the Fullest
I'll admit that I've always had a bookish interest in ventriloquism. It's not that I've ever wanted to give it a go - my failure to walk and chew gum at the same time practically insures I'd be nothing short of inept at manipulating a puppet, making it speak, and not moving my lips. Rather, I've always had an interest in acting. Ventriloquists master the unique challenge of creating not one but sometimes many personalities - the artist and the various dolls - and imbuing all of it with charm, wit, and performance grace. As someone who, in his youth, did some minor theatre productions, that's no easy task to do once; can you imagine having to do it simultaneously?

HER MASTER'S VOICE AND THE LEGACY OF SIX BEREAVED PUPPETS is a brilliant mockumentary entirely of Nina's design. When we join her, we find out that she's begun questioning herself and her career choice. At the onset, she's decided that, perhaps, it's time to hang up the puppets, put ventriloquism behind her,...

Different but acceptable
This was different than what I was expecting. It doesn't have the standard emphasis on humor, but it was still interesting. If you are just looking for laughs this isn't for you, but if you love the "vent" industry and the people in it than it's worth your time.

Sexual Chronicles of a French Family

Highly edited! Good Movie, but not Amazon version
It was a waste of money to rent this from Amazon. They don't tell you ahead of time this is a highly edited version.

If you love life, you love sex.
This is a beautiful film that looks sex right in the face! The French are fortunate in that they missed the
Influence of Queen Victoria; they are not afraid of the human body and the fact that sex is the key to
a healthy life.
In this film we see three generations of one family- the joys and problems in each generation.
The film is explicit, but not pornograghic.
An American film maker could never have made this film.

Censored version
The movie is available online via other carriers and there the dreaded phallus is allowed into the light. The version available via Amazon has been censored, an odd thing to do to an erotic movie. The original is sensitive, sometimes silly, sometimes hot indeed. I hate being treated like a child by a major corporation, don't you?

Bonnie & Clyde Vs. Dracula

It's Got a Great Title and a Really Cool DVD Cover
Genre crossovers are nothing new, but with the massive literary success of the novel PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, they're everywhere now and are an entire sub-genre in and of themselves. I like the idea of a crossover. I always enjoyed it as a kid when two or three tv shows would meet up for an episode or a two and would sometimes think of tv shows that would have been neat to see together-how cool would it have been if Magnum P.I. would have visited the mainland and got involved with the A-Team? Therefore, I picked up BONNIE & CLYDE VS. DRACULA just for the title alone. I kept thinking, it would be great to see a couple of gangsters take on the vampire king.

In the movie, Bonnie & Clyde are on the lamb after a bank robbery gone wrong. They are in need of a new car, a hideout, and a way to make some quick cash to get on their feet again. Clyde leads them to an "inn" of disreputable repute in the middle of nowhere where a friend of his is supposed to meet them with...

Better than expected
Let's be clear. This isn't a vampire movie or a Dracula movie. It's a Bonnie & Clyde movie with an appearance by Dracula. If you're looking for a vampire movie (as I was), get over it. The point is, it's a pretty good Bonnie & Clyde movie and also a pretty good mad scientist movie. The acting is decent considering the no-name cast. The story has some interesting twists. What more could you ask for? I knocked off one star because the ending was weak.

It's awful and boring.
Don't waste your time, or your money, on this film unless you are a total Bonnie & Clyde completest, Dracula completest, so and so vs. so and so completest, etc. Yes, the young woman the plays Bonnie is a total hottie; perhaps the film's only redeeming factor, but not worth the price. It's just plain stupid. Personally, I'd like to get a refund, but the seller was not at fault. I'm going to sell it here - "Like New-viewed once and once only!"
